We have been learning about different cultures around the world. The students researched about the culture of a country that they wanted to learn about. This was done as a homework project and then they presented it to the class.
We are a year 2 and 3 class in Ohaeawai, Northland, New Zealand. Our class is room 5 & 6 and our wonderful teachers are Mrs Ritchie and Miss Stewart. We have 39 kids in our class and we love to learn, write, read, play and do art.

Litterless lunches
We have been fortunate to have Anouk -Environmental Educator come into our class this week to talk to us about Litterless lunch boxes.
A honey wrap is an environmentally friendly alternative to using glad wrap. It can be used for wrapping lunches, leftovers, and snacks, The beeswax covered cloth can be used again and again, reducing rubbish!
We learnt about
Reduce: Cut down on packaging and food waste by purchasing fresh produce and bulk bin items.
Reuse: Pack lunches in reusable containers.
Recycle: Use recycle bins instead of tossing recyclables in the trash.
Respond: Take action and support Nutritious, waste-free meals. Make a difference for yourself; make a difference in your community.
Then we made bees wax wraps.

Swimsafe
Today we had a visit from Corinna, who came to teach us about being swimsafe. We learnt the importance of always wearing a lifejacket when on a boat, how to lie in the water, the signal for being rescued and how to be a tight huddle in a small group to stay safe. We also learnt lots more about being safe at the beach and by any water. One thing we all have to practise is being able to float on our backs, and if we can do that then turn from back to front and back again. Next year Corinna will be back to teach us more about being swimsafe, this time in the water. Be safe around the water everybody.
