Speeches

 We used our persuasive writing to write our speeches and then we learnt our speeches. Here are some of our class speeches.

Reusing newspaper

 On Monday we had a visit from Anouk.  She showed us how to make newspaper pots for gardening.  We made lots and have potted some tomato plants in them.  These are ready to be planted straight in the ground. What a great idea!

Greats and grands gifts

 For greats and grands day tomorrow our clever class have potted some succulent plants.  The children have made a cute note for inside and we have covered the outside of the pot with a tied up coffee sack.

Project Energize Athletics

 This morning we had a visit from Matua Tupara.  He taught us skills in throwing a discus, long jump and running.  

Term 3 Movies

 In Team Maunga Nui some groups have been making movies. These 4 movies were shared in our school movie judging. 

Te Reo Moment

 At midday today we shared in the Maori Language moment with over 700,000 tangata (people).  In 1972 at this time, a petition with 30,000 signatures was presented to the New Zealand parliament calling for te reo to be taught in schools.  He waiata tino pai!

Learning about our Pou

 Team Maunga Nui have been learning about our beautiful pou.  Six of these represent our Ohaeawai School values and the other one is the Kereru which is the kaitiaki of the local Ohaeawai, Taiamai area.  These photos show the tamariki sketching the pou.  They then had to write a description of the pou.

Taumata at the morning assembly

 Last week students from Team Maunga Nui were sitting on the Taumata at morning assembly. 

Cross Country 2020

 Covid 19 could not stop us from having our Ohaeawai School cross country today.  Sadly no parents could join us but we successfully created our first Livestream of the event.

Making 10

 We are learning how to use our basic facts to make 10 to solve addition equations.

Project Energise Learning ball skills

Today we had Matua Tupara from Project Energise. He taught ball skills that can be used in different sporting codes.

The students enjoyed the afternoon of fun and learning.

Matariki fun

On Wednesday 1 July the whole school celebrated Matariki.  Each of the teachers had activities for the students.  Here are a couple of the creations; a Marae recreation complete with maunga, awa, whare, waka, tangata, marama and kiwi.  Below are Maori masks where a lot of the children cleverly made up their own designs..  We all had fun creating and mixing with different students/teachers. Following was a feast of sausages and iceblocks.  Happy Matariki everyone!

Rocket making

In the last two weeks of term we have been learning about how a rocket works.  The class have all created their own rockets using recycled materials.

Dialogue writing

The class have been writing short dialogues and illustrating them.  They have been learning that their story has to have a problem and clear writing so it can be read easily.
